Walmart IS Evil
25th largest equivalent GDP in the world, from a company without morals. This is one reason why the US deserves to fall. We're too stupid to not buy from this company. And yes, I am that snob that refuses to give them my money.
Also: Walmart is the reason you have shitty, falling apart, replaceable goods.

Dear Weather
Dear Weather,
I see no need to complain about how cold you are, since this is not a Texas-related occurrence. Your icy blast has engulfed everywhere but Florida and Seattle (hate you Ben and Ja') so our freakishly dropped weather is not that big of a deal.
However, two points:
1. When I finish running 4.5 miles and leave the gym sweaty and only have about 500 feet to walk to my apartment (I made that second number up, I totally can't tell distance. The first one was valid according to Landice 7), please don't blow (feels like according to Weather.com) -1° gusts of wind at me. It's just mean.
2. You ruined Tuesday. It had so much potential this week, and you brought it all to shit.
Unhappily,
Nicole
P.S. I spent most of the day on conference calls sitting in bed as it was the warmest place I could find. Beds are not made for work. You destroyed the comfort of my super-comfy bed. Add it to the bottom of thelist of things you ruined today.

Obviously
Fox News makes you stupid. Viewers polled were found to be consistently misinformed and to believe the following:
91 percent believe the stimulus legislation lost jobs
72 percent believe the health reform law will increase the deficit
72 percent believe the economy is getting worse
60 percent believe climate change is not occurring
49 percent believe income taxes have gone up
63 percent believe the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts
56 percent believe Obama initiated the GM/Chrysler bailout
38 percent believe that most Republicans opposed TARP
63 percent believe Obama was not born in the U.S. (or that it is unclear)

BP Oil Disaster Spread
If It Was My Home has a visual indicator that can be moved to show the extent of the BP oil spill. Gives a bit of a different look when you see just how far it really is in relation to other places you know.

I Hate Winter

01.29.10. A fortunate night, except if you live in Dallas. The brightest full moon of 2010, and we are instead blessed with 32 degree weather, clouds and potential ice.
All in all, it has been a disappointing day. My time was not mine to spend as I wished, it was a day of incredible non-normal frustration, and awkwardness reigned supreme barely winning over boredom and hostility.
It never had the high points it deserved. This is just the cake topper.
Picture is related if you know anything about Greek mythology.

Technology Should Die
I am very tired of my Yahoo weather alerts not knowing the demographic I fit. I really do not need Hannah Montana ringtones any more than I need to find out if I am smarter than Paris Hilton. In all reality, seeing as how they are both younger and richer, maybe they are on the better path. Thanks to Yahoo, I now see the light.
Or maybe I am just bitter that I cannot turn off the alerts that I did not ask for, but love to show up at 12:04 every morning.

I Thought I Was Past This
Coming into work this morning, I received an email from someone in one of the San Jose offices with an attached algebra quiz. It was due today. I am evidently getting homework from my job. I don't remember how to even go about solving most of these questions. If this was actually meant for me, I would have failed my homework.

Mothaflippin'
So last night I missed the tornado warnings that were evidently attacking Dallas, b/c I was inside at House of Blues watching DeVotchKa perform. Going into the venue and coming out it was perfectly normal, albeit windy. Good for me.
However, at the same time, my stupid new iphone decided to stop sending text messages. All came back with an error message. I have turned the damn thing off and on, rebooted, reset, restored. All that has changed is the network shows it has finally connected, however instead of having bars showing the signal strength of my service, I now have negative numbers. I am not sure if this means I have a fraction of percentages, or seriously negative. Now I guess I need to go to the Apple store to see what the hell is off.
Here is hoping my shiny new toy isn't so jacked they tell me to buy a new model. This is completely hindering my standard form of communication, as anyone who knows me knows to always send a text mesaage if they expect a response.

Seriously?
"Since the storm, I haven't had any energy or pep to go get a job, but when push comes to shove, I will"
Know what? I lack energy or pep to go to work daily either! Especially with the non-asked-for single person doing everything bit! Amazingly, the paycheck/ability to afford things I'd like keeps winning out. It's been almost 3 years. Cut the bloody f*#%ing cord.

Itchy
"One of the biggest myths or misconceptions about chiggers is that they can burrow under your skin and drink your blood. This leads to the common treatment for chiggers of putting clear nail polish on chigger bites to suffocate the chiggers. Since chiggers don't actually burrow under your skin, this 'treatment' is unnecessary."
Thanks Hil. My legs itch like mad. Freakin' nature.

The End is Nigh
The internet is to be cut off tomorrow, ending all the terribly long time we paid way too much for Verizon's very unreliable and awful service. Once established in the new place we should be getting some new form of tubeage, probably through the cable tv option, not that we ever watch tv. But I suppose with that option, we can now have the chance to watch a documentary or an episode of American Gladiators (until real television returns, which we also didn't watch) if the mood strikes. Rabbit ears have thus far given us static and religious or Spanish stations. Go all those German classes back in high school I don't remember. Very helpful in Texas.
So, this might be it, unless the neighbors become more slack and stop blocking my habits with passwords. Three years here and the next door neighbor finally blocked the internet a month ago. Seems just about right. So, if there's nothing new here, it could easily be I am ignoring you, or it could be I don't feel like disconnecting my laptop from the dock at work to check my email.
And now, I am off to watch bad karaoke and spend some time with friends. The world might end tonight as we are supposed to be getting some ice and freezing weather. Knowing Dallas and all the wonderful people around here, the quarter inch we will probably receive will end up with everything closing down tomorrow, much to my chagrin. See you guys in a week or two.

Another reason laws putting limits on the tubes is bad
Britain Copywrite law makes no senseWhat kind of sense does it make for someone to be arrested for linking to things that have already been placed online? Why is it that the corporation is totally in the clear, but the guy who strcitly provided the linkage goes to jail? And hell, half the time the clips didn't even load on my computer. Not sure if it hated Macs or if it hated Safari, but eihter way, this is bullshit. Jeeis Cantrell and Black 20 evidently just made someone in charge of ridiculous charges aware there was a tite doing this. Hey! I'm linking to a news article! Arrest me!!!

The Things You Never Expect
Tonight one of my oldest friends informed me that an old friend from high school died last week due to a car accident. I never had many female friends, and she and I were never really all that close. We didn't hang outside of school, didn't have many mutual friends. But she was always one of those people that had so much confidence in herself that being around her made you feel special and more alive. Like you were part of a secret club of only the few that were really seriously having a good time, and there was a giant trick being pulled over on everyone else who was just merely existing. It's been a few years since we last spoke, and I could have gone forever without ever thinking about what she was up to or the things going on in her life. But knowing she is no longer ding those things just seems so off kilter. Damn.

This Day Sucks
Yesterday: So I knew I would have to replace one tire due to the not-my-fault curb incident. Find out this morning the drivers front tire has bubbles as well and would also need to be replaced, something I knew would cost more but shouldn't be a big deal as I already had an appointment to get my back tire changed this morning. Just add one more on. Except it is tremendously difficult to get to the tire place when you jump in your car and it won't turn on. Lights come on, but the engine won't turn over. Called in to work, called AAA (so glad I got that membership a few months back, saved me $80 on a 3 mile drive), emptied my car of any valuables. Tow truck guy shows up, looks at the car for a few mintues and asks me for my key with the clicker/alarm attached, saying he thinks it's the security system.
Great, easy fix, except my car doesn't have one. Yes, world, I am announcing to everyone I do not have an alarm on my $14k car. Come and steal it. It doesn't run, but looks pretty for a retardo-car. So currently my car is sitting in the back lot of Scion of Plano waiting for some indefinite time when they can look at it and let me know what is wrong with it. Not sure how much this is all going to cost me, and of course it has to happen right as rent is due. Good timing to spend even more money. Damnit.
--
Today: Starter relay was broken. Covered under warranty, so no worries there. Two new tires plus alignment? $340. Skip out on buying the small, fule efficient cars unless you factor in the cost of tires. And buying throught the dealership was actually cheaper than if I had purchased from Discount Tires or the like. Now I'm poor.

Animals are Evil
There's apparently a reason why cats prefer the unfriendliest person in the room.
And all this time I thought it was just the universe's love of irony. Remind me in the future to just pick them up and love on them and then throw them aside. Maybe then they'll leave me alone. Now just need to find a cure for dogs.

So Here's Something Else
Looks like director Morgan Routt isn't a director so much as an editor......think I preferred not knowing. Here's the original 1965 Rene Laloux version.
