Texas Heat Melts Everything

To show the effects of the heat in Texas, artist Herb Williams created crayon sculptures that looks like flames, then set them out in the heat. Pretty much immediately, they started melting. In October. Great exhibit, shows the ridiculousness of Texas.

Of Course

Where to live to avoid a natural disaster. And, not surprisingly, Dallas area is the worst place to be. This seems just right.

Dear Weather

Dear Weather,

I see no need to complain about how cold you are, since this is not a Texas-related occurrence. Your icy blast has engulfed everywhere but Florida and Seattle (hate you Ben and Ja') so our freakishly dropped weather is not that big of a deal.

However, two points:

1. When I finish running 4.5 miles and leave the gym sweaty and only have about 500 feet to walk to my apartment (I made that second number up, I totally can't tell distance. The first one was valid according to Landice 7), please don't blow (feels like according to Weather.com) -1° gusts of wind at me. It's just mean.

2. You ruined Tuesday. It had so much potential this week, and you brought it all to shit.

Unhappily,

Nicole

P.S. I spent most of the day on conference calls sitting in bed as it was the warmest place I could find. Beds are not made for work. You destroyed the comfort of my super-comfy bed. Add it to the bottom of thelist of things you ruined today.

Oh, Come On!

Seriously, heater? You decide on a holiday when it is currently 38° (feels like 31°) and the weather is supposed to drop to 21° to stop working? Now I have to make some poor guys day crappy because he has to leave his family to come fix my heater so my apartment will heat up to above 56° and I will no longer be a Nicole-shaped popsicle. I'm used to freezing at work, but at home is not cool (well, actually I guess that's exactly what it is).

Hope this isn't some sort of foreshadowing for the coming year.....

Weather.com

Besides being ~40° too warm by their estimation right now, Weather.com is also confusing 'drizzly, foggy, miserable and overcast' with 'partly cloudy'.

Point #1: It is physically impossible to destroy anything created directly by God.

Point #2: Pollution only has a noticeable impact on health or the environment in large, visible doses.

Point #3: The Government has no business interfering with Business.  Large left-leaninggovernments are corrupt.

Point #4: Global Warming is a Socialist-Communist plot.

Point #5: Warm means not cold.

Point #6: Scientists don't agree about anything.

Point #7: Al Gore is using this as a way to make money.

Nuclear and Oil companies lie about the safety of their wares as a way to make moneyNoPe.

Point #8: Why would rich people want to destroy the world?  They live here, too, dumba$s.

Point #9: You can't change my mind with any amount of evidence.  See Point #1.

AKA I'm Dumb

It's terrible when it is a beautiful day like today. High 76°, nice wind, perfect weather to go out and enjoy at a nature preserve or a lake or somewhere similar. Unfortunately, my increase in running lately gave me shin splints. This is what happens when you try to be healthy. And no, replacing cycling with a much less impact sport such as cycling doesn't feel anywhere as nice as running.

So rather than enjoy the nice weather, I sat inside most of the day and accomplished nothing. Yay!

Seriously...

Haven't they predicted this every year since Katrina? How it turns out still amazingly, completely built upon fearmongering!

I Hate Winter

01.29.10. A fortunate night, except if you live in Dallas. The brightest full moon of 2010, and we are instead blessed with 32 degree weather, clouds and potential ice.

All in all, it has been a disappointing day. My time was not mine to spend as I wished, it was a day of incredible non-normal frustration, and awkwardness reigned supreme barely winning over boredom and hostility.

It never had the high points it deserved. This is just the cake topper.

Picture is related if you know anything about Greek mythology.

Ah, Texas

Teo days ago I was outside at a party wearing a tank top. This morning I have snow on my car. Tonight, dry again. Gotta love the seasons.

Thoughts During a Storm

So it is storming tonight. Gorgeous, violent storm, with very little rain and one of those brilliant light displays that continue for hours. Really makes you wish to have someone to share it with, to stand on the porch and drink wine, but, alas, seems more fitting to enjoy it alone as I have so many other storms in the past.

So storm equals lazy night, which equals Hulu or Netflix. Been watching the series Dead Like Me, more out of a preoccupation with how the protagonist's voice matches my own in sarcasm and monotone than anything else. Netflix had the series up until the last two episodes of season one, so I move to Hulu, which has both seasons in full.

Which of course leads to the actual rant.

I watched Harold and Maude this last weekend. 1971 film, dark comedy that never fails to deliver with the most inappropriate content throughout. Considered to be in the top 100 comedies by the AFI. I really enjoyed it.

At least I thought I did, up until Tmobile killed the main theme by Cat Stevens by playing it for every other commercial in this damn series on Hulu. For becoming the largest network television ever, Hulu really needs to learn to broaden their advertising format so as not to make the watchers go bonky by hearing "if you wanna sing out, sing out; if you wanna be free, be free" a hundred times a night. All this reaslly does is make me hate both the song and a strong advocate for boycotting the new Google phone.

My hand hurts from cutting out little people shapes from card stock (will explain later with pictures). The sky keeps turning on fire with a purple flame. Variety is the spice of life.

"Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet." - Bob Dylan

Soggy

Today has been beautiful. The rain is a constant, light, and soggy. It is 70 degrees outside. The sky is a beautiful mess of grey clouds. All I have been managing to do today is sit by the open window and watch the traffic pass by. I love the sound of the cars passing on the wet streets. Pandora radio has been providing a very steady stream of relaxing bands such as Morcheeba, Bonobo, Sia, Esthero, Zero 7. Great music to sit back with a cup of tea and a book, as was done most of the morning.

About to leave to go to the farmer's market and buy veggies, bread and cheese. Evening will be spent with the cooking for the upcoming week's lunches. Dinner will undoubtedly be some fantastic, easily created tofu stir fry as I need to use up the last of the tofu before it takes a turn south. Haven't figured out the night's plan yet. Torn between whatever Netflix has sent my way, drinks out with some friends, or going out and getting soaked taking photos in the rain. It's nice to have a Seattle day for a change in Dallas.
